Predatory Nature by Damalia

This was a painting I did in 2005 for a class assignment. The predator characters are theoretically upper-class ladies and gentlemen in an upper-class club/bar setting, looking aggressive, drinking blood. The message is about how the upper-class preys on and takes advantage of the lower-class (here represented by the prey species icons in the beer taps). I don't usually down-talk my work, but I can see the technical flaws in this now, a year and a half later. That, and it actually photographed horribly. Board, 30" long

finished holiday mini-commission of longleggedgit(@ DA)'s two IRL pups - shampoo and mousse! she wanted them dressed for the holiday season as a little gift for her mom :} she described their personalities and i tried to reflect them as best i could. also, this scan is a bit too saturated. i'm going to go back and fix it a little. hope you like it lindsay!! (i may tweak it even more before sending it out. i realized that the red's kind of..stuck in the middle. maybe there'll be a cardinal flying around or something!) happy holidays everyone!

i liked doing these a lot. so i'll put them up here! all random characters that alex might run into on her adventures. the snobby king charles is named priscilla and the schipperke at the end (drawn twice in two different ways) is thora. i used to have an arctic fox character named thora but she's been turned into this since i don't draw her much anyway. i had a really snobby german pointer as well but didn't finish him in time :/ brush pen, pen, white gel pen.

so here's a big mix up of all the pictures i've done of alex recently. because of that scruffy face and indeterminate age, i'm still having a hard time figuring out how to make her look just right. well i shouldn't say hard- i really like drawing her :] newest ones in top left and top right (fuzzy hat!). different scarves because i couldn't find my purple marker and wouldn't mind mixing up her scarf every now and then anyway. i'm at home right now <3 i left the window in because...uh, it was part of one of the groups of sketches and i kind of like it.

Dragon Dance by Kacey

A dragon dance through Chinatown, celebrating the Chinese New Year. Acrylic paints on 20"x30"illustration board - the original painting will be at the Further Confusion 2008 art show. This painting took approximately 120 hours to complete. All of the characters depicted are my own original characters - several of them are recurring characters thoughout my artwork - including Cirrus the eastern blue dragoness, Candi the red panda, Antarctica the blue vixen, Echo the genet, Vienna the arctic roo, Kristania(Misty)the ringtail cat, and Ace the black jackal. This is a fictional Chinatown - the building designs are my own creation - the gateway was inspired by the Chinatown gateway in London, however, and the entire piece was inspired by visiting San Francisco's Chinatown.

I have to admit I'm not crazy about this one, it was rather a bit rushed, the coloring's not great, and I don't like the composition enough to bother much with fixing it up now that the critique's done. I did make a point of working out the perspective on this- if you look closely, you can see a grid on the ground in perspective, I was planning on showing a tile floor, but as time was limited, I didn't end up bothering much with it.

Thought you could escape, eh? >:D This is a pretty cool b/w piece that I started at the beginning of the semester. I'll be selling the original at my table at FC. Really.. seems much easier than putting it in the art show. :p I'll have other originals for sale at my table too.

All characters belong to their respective owners, too many to list individually. You can really tell the progression from top to bottom of the page how I got more used to doing them, too. The first bunch (the row with the dachshund up) were all done in about 15 minutes each as part of a fundraiser to raise the last little bit I needed to get the 1" button maker. After that I started charging a little more and spending a little more time. I also got about 40 new copics for my birthday, so you can see how much that effected the color palette I was using. XD
